Extended range audio for digital

by Guillaume Chalaron

Upsetting Fact

Half speed mastered vinyl records and digital music files

have been analysed during 7 years

Our goal is to make them musically match

I ended up defining 6 major differences between high end analog and digital materials

With patience and conviction, I developed a merging technique in audio processing

dedicated to

shiftback missing features

This musical improvement is based on results showing the ability to return digital audio tracks

to a significant copy of an analog recording

It concerns the dynamic range, the spatial width, the details, the presence...

Applied on most digital tracks, the result is just amazing

6 crucial features have been identified through long research focused on sound delivered by 40 high end LPs converted on DxD to define the design of the RM

From digital audio contents, data is recalculated by a same digital protocol using few softwares

The sound calibration of the RM is able to converge on sound features given by HD vinyls

Key Points

Widescreen Dynamics

The dynamic range is newly scaled to fit great 45s vinyl records

Musically p to f now will be pp to ff

RM can fill or empty the room and get you at an orchestral performance

reversing the effect of the loudness war

dynamic comparison cd vs lp

Flexible Soundstage

Full sound radiates beyond the area of the speakers

Details are alive and focused the way you can

hear it on half speed mastered vinyl records

original hi res audio format

Advanced Stereo Imaging

Left, center and right locations are redefined

to generated more transparent layers between the speakers

unabling a continuous and realistic panoramic music

au delà de la stéréo

Sound Layers with 3D Transparency

It is usually said that digital is 2D and analog 3D

3D width and separation are the

most complex achievement of the RM's structure

Instruments become...visible

Maximum Transient Fluidity

RM is also reaching analog fluidity thru

complex digital conversions up to DSD2048

and a technique to cancel unwanted digital effects

does vinyl really sound better

Intelligent Balance

Human perception of frequencies and level changes is not linear

The EQ setting and dynamic range is elaborated

after psycho acoustic tests, master tape experience and live sound

Robinson Dadson curves

  • SAME workflow for all tracks (over 130 digital operations by computing)

Between RM and Analog Recording,

EQ setting, imaging and focusing CAN SLIGHTLY VARY due to the

specific analog equipments, vinyl care, A/D converters and the mastering
